This role is based on site at our corporate headquarters in Northbrook, IL
Responsibilities- Develops, documents and maintains environmental health and safety (EHS) programs (e.g. hazardous
- materials, emergency response plans) in compliance with Federal, State and Local legislation.
- Conducts inspections and reports on tests and investigations to obtain data for use in determining sources of pollution and methods for controlling pollutants in air, soil and water.
- Analyzes, interprets and validates information on hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Creates EHS programs and instructs employees in matters pertaining, but not limited to occupational health, injury prevention, safe operation of equipment and proper handling/cleanup of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Acts as a representative responding to public inquiries, audits (internal and external), government agencies or executive inquiries
Qualifications- University Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering or closely related field plus additional requirement of one of the following: Related Masters degree or Certified Industrial Hygienist (American Board of Industrial Hygiene) or Professional Engineer license or Certified Safety Professional (Board of Certified Professionals)
- Minimum 5-7 years directly related experience to include conducting incident investigations, managing requirements of an EHS program (training, assessments, updating inventories, developing procedures), emergency response, developing/maintaining EHS metrics.
- This position requires periodic travel (10-15%) by car and/or airline (or other public transportation) to other UL Solutions sites as assigned and perform in-person audits/ inspections/ investigations in a wide variety of laboratory and office environments.
Physical Demands
- Flexibility to work non-traditional business hours as needed.
- Frequent use of computers and office equipment is required.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position, assisted or unassisted, for up to 2-hour periods several times a day is required.
- Ability, assisted or unassisted, to move safely over uneven terrain; ascend/descend stairs/ladders/scaffolding required.
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs assisted or unassisted,
- Ability to push, pull, bend, reach and stoop assisted or unassisted
- Ability to work in tight spaces and work in hot/cold environments will occasionally be required in lab, office and outside environments.
- Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond quickly.
- Ability to wear a respirator and other personal protective equipment when required, while performing select duties
Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $81,200 to $108,200 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
