Position Summary:
The environmental compliance engineer is responsible for assisting our facilities in achieving their environmental compliance needs for the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, etc.
This position works with team members on air, water, and waste projects, collects environmental data, and works with federal, state, and local agencies on environmental compliance issues.
Location:
This position is based in either Kansas City, Kansas, Salt Lake City or Payson, Utah. Travel is required as needed to any PPC Flexible Packaging location.

- Prepare supporting documentation and reports including, but not limited to, engineering calculations, regulatory compliance reports, SWPP Plans, Tier II reports, TRI reports, and air, water, and waste permit applications.
- Manage multiple tasks, while meeting deadlines and completing projects on time and within budget.
- Solve environmental problems relating to water and air pollution, waste disposal, and process safety.
- Complete regulatory compliance determinations based upon facility operations and assist with regulatory strategy development.
- Develop air emissions estimates for industrial processes and related operations.
- Performs and documents environmental audits and inspections.
- Enters and maintains compliance data related to environmental issues in VelocityEHS management system.
- Prepare and deliver required environmental compliance training across the business including annual RCRA, SWPP, and CAA training.
- Serve as subject matter leader for waste management including RCRA compliance and waste minimization programs.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental compliance.
- Experience in preparing permit applications for a variety of regulatory requirements.
- Experience preparing environmental reports and plans, such as SARA Tier II/TRI reports, discharge monitoring reports and annual/biennial waste reporting.
- Ability to perform air emission calculations, using mass-balance methods, engineering judgment, AP-42 emission factors, etc.
- Ability to interpret complex environmental regulations and assist with demonstrating compliance in a cost-effective manner.
- Exceptional organizational skills are required to manage/support multiple concurrent projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong technical writing abilities.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
- Able to travel throughout the United States.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar industry recognized certification preferred.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
- You must be able to lift and ensure proper handling of items up to fifty pounds.
- Must be able to work during the hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Must be capable and willing to work more than a normal workweek.
- Must be able to identify, prioritize, and meet multiple expectations for area of responsibility.
- Must have the physical dexterity to bend, stand, flex, and reach as the position dictates.
- Must be able to use the Company’s software efficiently and effectively.
