- Our network of Greenmarkets, Farmstands, and the work of GrowNYC Wholesale ensure that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, healthiest local food.
- We build and support community and school gardens through volunteer days, technical assistance, training, grants, and more.
- We provide 70,000 children each year with programs that provide meaningful interactions with the natural environment.
GREENMARKET REGIONAL MANAGER (Full-Time)
Position Summary
Greenmarket Regional Managers ensure the successful operation of GrowNYC’s more than 46 farmers' markets throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
With support from the larger Food Access and Agriculture Program team, each Regional Manager oversees every aspect of 12-15 individual Greenmarkets, trains and supervises between 7-13 seasonal staff, and helps manage relationships with 80-120 individual Producers who are part of a community of more than 200 farmers, bakers, fishers, and other participants in the Greenmarket program.

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
Market Operations and Administration
- Oversee day-to-day logistics and operations for the Greenmarket sites in your assigned region.
- Visit Greenmarket sites regularly to review operations, address issues if they arise, and assess staff performance.
- Develop, adjust, and implement site layouts and operational plans for each Greenmarket site in your assigned region.
- Help oversee the safe operation and maintenance of market equipment, including the stocking of Greenmarket vehicles
- Work with GrowNYC’s Food Access Initiatives team to ensure smooth SNAP/EBT operations at market.
- Work with the Greenmarket Operations Manager to coordinate Greenmarket Producers’ market assignments and reservations in your assigned region.
- Mediate disputes, provide support for site staff when conflicts arise, and review any issues with the Greenmarket Operations Manager for follow-up.
- Cover seasonal staff shifts at market sites in your assigned region.
Market Promotions and Partnerships
- Create a market outreach and promotion plan and oversee its implementation with support from the Communications team.
- Help plan weekly activities at market sites in your assigned region,.
- Identify, develop, and maintain strategic relationships with community partners – including local businesses, like-minded organizations, and city agencies, including attending Community Board meetings, NYPD precinct meetings, and/or other community gatherings as needed.
- Oversee social media management at the market sites in your assigned region in coordination with the Communications team.
Staff Management
- Supervise 7-13 Site Leads who manage markets in your assigned region.
- Provide training and ongoing feedback and conduct performance reviews for Site Leads.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with Site Leads and be available as a resource.
- Work with the Greenmarket Operations Manager, Greenmarket Staffing and Administrative Manager, and Human Resources team to recruit, hire, and onboard new market staff. Additionally, monitor and adjust staffing schedules according to market needs.
- Assist management in issuing corrective actions notices and performance improvement plans as needed.
Qualifications
- Three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in operations and/or program management, preferably in a public-facing setting, e.g., retail, agricultural, restaurant, or culinary.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing staff (preferably supervisory experience similar in scope to current Greenmarket field-based staffing) with a people-centered and inclusive leadership style.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a desire and proven ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and knowledge levels.
- Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and make on-the-spot decisions, while being agile and adaptable to continuous change to effectively meet emergent needs.
- Strong dispute mediation, conflict management, and de-escalation skills, with a willingness to compassionately and firmly manage the complex dynamics of operating an outdoor public space in New York City.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
- A valid New York State driver's license, with a satisfactory driving record and a willingness to operate a cargo van.
Ideal Qualifications
- Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese language proficiency (highly preferred).
- Knowledge of sustainable local agriculture/farming, food systems, food access, and/or food justice and strong commitment to a racially and socially just food system.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 65 lbs (aiding techniques/tools will be provided for safe lifting upon request) and work outdoors, walking and standing for periods of up to 12 hours, sometimes in extreme temperatures. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Ability to work in a potentially noisy environment.
Schedule
This position is full-time, 35-40 hours a week. Work hours are variable each week and each day, with a frequent need to start as early as 6 AM. Weekend and holiday work is required.
Compensation
The position is an exempt, full-time salaried position. It pays $65,000 - $70,000 and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs). The position is non-union-eligible/not part of the bargaining unit.
Location
This position involves a combination of field and office work. Remote work is available with a minimum of 3 days of office presence, with a mandatory presence on Wednesdays. In-person field-based work and off-site travel is required. Greenmarket operates sites in all five boroughs – all locations are outdoors.
