The Engineering Specialist III position is responsible for providing technical assistance for planning, funding, permitting, and monitoring of resilience adaptation projects, as well as assist in the development of policy and procedures.
The Resilient Florida Program was established during the 2021 Legislative Session with the passage of SB1954/HB7019 and the creation of section 380.093, Florida Statutes. This legislation will ensure that communities have the resources they need for resilience planning and project implementation as well as creating a framework for a cohesive, coordinated approach to address the impacts of sea level rise, effects of intensified storms, and localized flooding.

In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department's Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position. This intermediate position will support the Resilient Florida Program and requires a broad working knowledge of engineering, geology, data science, and environmental science and provides technical assistance for planning, funding, permitting, and monitoring of resilience adaptation projects, as well as assist in the development of policy and procedures.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Conducts technical reviews of proposed adaptation projects, resilience related monitoring data, and analysis of vulnerability studies.
- Assists in development and review of data products used to analyze program information and streamline processes.
- Represents the Resilient Florida Program in formal and informal meetings with stakeholders.
- Assists with the development of guidelines for the review of project data and the criteria for compliance with statutes, rules and policies.
- Conducts on-site inspections to evaluate project tasks and deliverables.
- Develops and maintains knowledge, skills and abilities in resilience or engineering.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
