JOB SUMMARY: These positions are located in the Southeast Arizona Group at Chiricahua National Monument and Coronado National Memorial, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. MAJOR DUTIES: This position is based in the Southeast Arizona Group (SEAZ) which encompasses Coronado National Memorial (CORO), Chiricahua National Monument (CHIR), and Fort Bowie National Historic Site (FOBO). The incumbent will be expected to function in all three units but based primarily out of Chiricahua. The SEAZ group faces all the traditional challenges of a National Park Service area with the additional complexity of the international border with Mexico. Drug smuggling, Undocumented Non-Citizens (UDNC) traffic, and homeland security are prevalent issues that require constant vigilance and specialty skills and tactics to manage. The SEAZ group is part of a designated High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). Additionally, the SEAZ group is a member of multiple interagency groups dedicated to border protection, management, and homeland security. This position requires a Type I National Park Service Law Enforcement Commission. As such, the incumbent's primary duties are to perform a full range of law enforcement duties as federal officers including occupying rigorous positions whose primary duties are the investigation, apprehension, or detection of individuals suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States. Appropriate enforcement to protect park natural, cultural, historical, and human resources constitutes the basic reason for the existence of this of this position occupying a substantial portion of the incumbent's working time. These duties are assigned on a regular and recurring basis. The duties of this position are rigorous due to changing weather conditions and challenging terrain. Employment is physically vigorous and individuals must meet physical qualification requirements.
