Our client is a state-owned entity with investments in diversified portfolios and they're looking for an ESG Senior Manager, Sustainability Department. This role reports to the Head of Sustainability and based in Johor.
Job Purpose
As the ESG Senior Manager, he/she will play a pivotal role in supporting the Head of Sustainability in the organization's efforts to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into its operations and strategies. Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, the Manager will be responsible for leading sustainability projects, driving the implementation of internal carbon pricing, and supporting sustainable finance initiatives across the organization and its investee companies. This role requires a strong background in managing sustainability initiatives, collaborating with senior leaders, and ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability strategies. The Senior Manager will play a key role in advancing the organization net-zero ambitions and enhancing the Group’s overall sustainability performance. Additionally, he/ she will assist in overseeing the ESG Operations team, providing guidance and support in implementing the ESG framework, developing data collection templates, and monitoring ESG information for disclosure purposes.
ESG Strategy Development and Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Sustainability to develop and implement organization-wide ESG strategies and initiatives.
- Leverage on the expertise in ESG management to contribute to the development of comprehensive strategies that address material ESG issues and align with the organization's long-term goals.
- Engage with key stakeholders across the organization to gather insights, build consensus, and ensure alignment of ESG strategies with business objectives.
Team Management and Leadership:
- Manage and provide leadership to the ESG Operations team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Assisting the Head of Sustainability in ensuring effective resource allocation, workload management, and professional development opportunities for the team.
ESG Data Management and Reporting:
- Oversee the development and implementation of data collection templates and methodologies to capture accurate and reliable ESG data, with a specific focus on GHG emissions.
- Lead the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of sustainability metrics, including carbon footprints, resource efficiency, and environmental impacts, across the Group and investee companies.
- Monitor and review ESG information and data, ensuring data integrity, quality, and compliance with relevant reporting frameworks.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to prepare and deliver comprehensive ESG reports and disclosures to relevant parties, such as investors, regulatory bodies, and rating agencies.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding ESG-related matters.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with investors, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance ESG credibility and reputation.
- Communicate ESG initiatives, progress, and performance to internal and external audiences through various channels, including presentations, reports, and social media.
Sustainability Innovation, Carbon Markets & Sustainable Finance:
- Stay informed of global sustainability trends, carbon markets, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation in sustainability efforts.
- Identify opportunities for integrating carbon pricing, sustainable investments, and innovative technologies to improve the Group’s environmental and social impact.
- Support sustainable finance initiatives, including green financing and investment opportunities, ensuring the integration of ESG criteria in financing strategies.
ESG Integration and Risk Management:
- Work closely with different departments and business units to embed ESG considerations into decision-making processes and operational practices.
- Collaborate with risk management teams to identify and assess ESG-related risks and develop strategies for mitigation.
- Provide guidance and support on integrating ESG metrics into performance management frameworks and incentive structures.
ESG Education and Awareness:
- Conduct and assist in curating and conducting ESG-related trainings and awareness sessions for employees at various levels within the organization, together with the Learning and Development Department.
- Assist in developing training materials and resources to educate employees on ESG principles, practices, and their relevance to their respective roles.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Management, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001, GRI Certified) would be an advantage.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in sustainability management, ESG reporting, or corporate social responsibility, preferably in an investment holding company or large corporate group.
- Proven track record in managing sustainability projects, including carbon pricing frameworks and sustainable finance initiatives.
- Experience working collaboratively with senior management and stakeholders across diverse industries.
- Expertise in managing sustainability projects, including the implementation of internal carbon pricing frameworks, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability and financial goals.
- Strong knowledge of ESG frameworks, reporting standards (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD), and industry best practices.
- Experience in managing and leading teams, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in data analysis and reporting, with a strong understanding of ESG data collection methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of ESG frameworks, carbon markets, and sustainability regulations, including supporting green finance and sustainable investment opportunities.
- Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and drive results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset and the ability to think creatively.
