The Opportunity:
Our dynamic team is growing, and we have a new opportunity for an Environmental Project Coordinator with 7+ years of contaminated sites experience to work in a multi-disciplinary team that solves complex issues for our clients throughout the Prairies and Northern Canada. The position is in our Remediation Program Management (RPM) team based in Calgary, Edmonton or Saskatoon. This new opportunity will allow you to coordinate and conduct field work related to monitoring, investigating, remediating, and reclaiming contaminated sites impacted by hydrocarbons (diesel, gasoline crude oil etc.) salts and metals, as well as prepare technical reports. It is expected that you are self-motivated and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills.
Responsibilities for Candidates
- Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, WSP clients, employees and the public
- Project coordination including set-up of field work programs, preparation of field work instructions, budget and schedule management, subcontractor management, and project filing
- Conducting occasional field work including soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment investigations, monitoring programs and overseeing site remediation
- Working within a project team playing a key role in a variety of contaminant assessment and remediation projects
- Preparing proposals, including development of work scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for senior review
- Completing and assisting in data collection, compilation, interpretation and reporting for phased environmental site assessment, remediation and site monitoring
- Preparing technical reports for review by senior staff
- Project coordinator is expected to train junior staff in environmental practices including Phase I and II ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, oversight of remediation etc. as well as on site specific health and safety
Qualifications for Candidates
- Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Environmental Sciences or related
- A minimum of seven years of experience in environmental consulting
- Previous experience with soil and groundwater sampling
- Hands-on experience with either hand or mechanized drilling techniques.
- Strong awareness of health and safety issues and a safety conscious attitude
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy of field notes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to handle various digital tools and project management software.
- A valid driver’s license
- A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work with little supervision
- Experience working in the north is preferred.
