The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The Senior HR Generalist is responsible for overseeing all payroll and benefits functions, including supervising assigned HR personnel, processing the Zoo’s biweekly payroll and tracking employee paid leave and employee leave of absences.
As the Senior HR Generalist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Ensure biweekly payroll is processed timely and accurately.
- Administer and maintain FMLA program
- Review and make corrections to monthly statements (i.e.: health, dental, vision, and life insurance; 403b investments and union membership dues).
- Support the annual team member review process.
- Stay informed of ever changing federal, state, and local policy and law changes that may affect the company.
- Prepare reports, census data for annual audit and 5500 filing preparation for the retirement and health insurance plans.
- Ensure filing of 1094 forms and furnishment of 1095C forms.
- Leads all health insurance audits alongside the HR leadership team.
- Support with data extraction for annual EEO-1 report.
- Ensure personnel, medical, and all other team member files are updated in a timely manner, maintained and remain confidential.
- Develop and implement communication strategies to inform employees about their benefits, options, changes, and enrollment periods.
- Provide one-on-one assistance to employees regarding benefit questions, claims, and issues.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment, ensuring employees are informed of available benefits and changes.
- Lead special projects related to benefits programs, such as the introduction of new benefits offerings, technology implementations, or organizational changes.
- Present new hire on-boarding and orientation procedures related benefit eligibility for new hires, system enrollment training and timesheet/HRIS training.
- Manage the benefits budget, ensuring programs are cost-effective and align with the organization’s financial goals.
- Any and all other duties as assigned by management.
- Maintain positive working relations between employees and management.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Knowledge of HRIS software including payroll, time and attendance, and recruiting software; preferably UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group).
- Excellent communication skills; written and verbal.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Two years supervisory experience.
- Three years experience with payroll & benefits administration.
- Professional certification in Human Resources or other related certification preferred.
