The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Zoo Quality Host Lead, you are responsible for maintaining the zoo grounds, buildings, and related areas. Work is performed under the immediate direction of the Zoo Quality Manager or Assistant Manager but may be performed under general supervision once learned. You will have constant direct guest contact and always exhibit excellent guest service.
As a Zoo Quality Host Lead, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Assist with ZQ Leadership of Zoo cleaning operations.
- Safely operate leaf blowers, power sweepers, pressure washers, steam cleaners, walk-behind vacuums, and floor buffers.
- Assist and ensure the cleaning of buildings and service lavatories, pressure wash, mop floors, dust surfaces, clean windows, clean trash cans on zoo grounds.
- Hand sweep interior and exterior areas of buildings and remove trash and debris from public spaces.
- Clean and Service lavatory areas and advise the Department Manager of plumbing issues.
- Schedule power washer cleaning on particular zoo areas
- Assist with fulfillment of all ZQ prospectus responsibilities, including but not limited to Board Events, VIP Tours, after-hours events, etc.
- Check lavatories and ensure they are stocked with essential supplies.
- Ensure the Zoo Quality team follows through with their daily duties.
- Check lavatories and buildings for trash and spot clean.
- Assist and ensure that the ZQ team picks up and throws away debris throughout zoo grounds, buildings, and related areas.
- Report any holes in asphalt or walkways and any other safety hazards.
- Report and clean debris from the tops of buildings and gutters.
- Become knowledgeable of San Antonio Zoo promotions and general information.
- Upholds all company policies outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the Zoo, showing hospitality to all.

- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software platforms.
- Must possess strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Must have a pleasant and businesslike manner.
- Must uphold a high standard of confidentiality.
- Ability to develop skills in operating power equipment used in performing assigned jobs.
- Sufficient physical strength, coordination, and agility to start, stop, and efficiently operate gasoline engine power sweepers and efficiently operate a floor buffer.
- Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors, and cold/heat temperature extremes.
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Prior experience with floor buffer preferred.
- Prior experience with cleaning chemicals preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
- One year in custodian management or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Minimum of one year of responsible leadership experience in management or supervisory positions.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
- We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
