The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the Development Manager, you serve as a member of the leadership team at San Antonio Zoo. You provide strategic leadership in all aspects of board management and coordination, ensuring smooth and productive interactions. This includes overseeing the scheduling and management of development prospect meetings, collaborating with the Development Department and CEO to maximize fundraising opportunities.
As a Development Manager, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Manage and coordinate all Board of Director (BOD) meetings: This includes scheduling, setting agendas, distributing materials, and ensuring smooth execution for all committees, including the executive committee.
- Lead monthly touchpoints with BOD members: Facilitate regular communication by scheduling and leading (or coordinating) monthly meetings or check-ins with BOD officers and committee chairs.
- Oversee BOD Orientation: Plan, schedule, and manage the onboarding process for new and current BOD members, ensuring they have the information and resources needed.
- Assist and coordinate quarterly board meetings: Partner with relevant staff to plan the agenda, secure logistics, and manage the overall execution of quarterly board meetings.
- Oversee meeting minutes: Responsible for taking minutes at all meetings, ensure accuracy and completeness for auditing purposes, and manage distribution to board members.
- Lead BOD annual giving tracking: Develop and implement a system to track annual giving from BOD members and provide reports and insights to staff and the BOD.
- Implement BOD meeting reminders: Establish a system for sending timely reminders to all Board members for upcoming meetings and Development events.
- Provide essential support for activities led by major gifts fundraisers.
- Schedule and manage major gift meetings: Proactively identify, schedule, and manage logistics for major gift prospect meetings and tours involving the CEO, CDO, VP of Development, other development staff, and BOD members.
- Conduct guided tours of the zoo grounds for BOD members and potential prospects, fostering relationship-building and engagement.
- Serve as primary BOD liaison: Be the central point of contact for the Board of Directors on zoo staff, fielding inquiries, directing them to appropriate resources, and facilitating communication. Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Zoo Standard Operating Procedures, SA Zoo Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
Other Responsibilities:

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- Two years of administrative or leadership experience.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through as demonstrated through effective project management experience.
- Demonstrated writing and editing skills.
- Outstanding ability to work effectively in teams of diverse people and organizations.
- Experience working with a database, as well as with Microsoft Office including Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
- Experience with Blackbaud products such as Raiser’s Edge NXT is a plus.
- Strong organizational, communications, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
