Senior Electrical Engineer

The position of Senior Electrical Engineer reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer and sits within the Global Technical Services (GTS) Operations Engineering team.
Providing engineering support to Iberdrola Renewables Business Units (Iberia, International, UK & Offshore) on Electrical aspects of operational Renewable assets including substations (Onshore and Offshore), 33kV to 66kV lines, Wind farms, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and PV plants, you will act as Electrical Technical Expert within a team of Engineers responsible for the resolution of complex technical issues affecting the global generation fleet (>14,000MW).
Providing technical expertise and engineering advice to the business, you will assist the Lead Electrical Engineer in the management of technical problems and solutions.
Developing and maintaining an effective relationship between the UK onshore and offshore Operations Business and Global Technical Services will be key in this position.
Responsibilities
Working within a global team providing technical expert support to the operational teams of the global Renewable business (UK, Europe, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Australia), you will lead root cause investigations for electrical component failures and develop robust technical solutions across a range of assets including transformers, switchgear, generators and converters/inverters.
Providing engineering support to the UK and global Renewable business to resolve technical issues affecting production output, you will analyse any technical issues and provide feasible solutions whilst advising the operational business of key findings, root causes, risks and solutions.
Technically assessing all design modifications of Renewable generation assets (related to both failures and performance improvement), you will make technical recommendations to ensure safety and reliability. Proactively leading the technical analysis and implementation of these solutions, you will engage and provide expert technical support with equipment suppliers and contractors to manage technical risks and overall performance of generating assets.
Providing technical support in negotiations regarding electrical equipment guaranties and warranties, you will be required to perform technical assessments of potential new equipment suppliers (including detailed technical due diligences of components) and apply lessons learned from the operational phase to mitigate exposure to risk for the Business.
Writing technical specifications of electrical systems (transformers, generators, switchgear, protection systems) and procedures to manage operational assets and risk, avoiding recurrence of problems, you will analyse and modify maintenance plans of electrical equipment to improve safety, reliability and reduce costs.
Evaluating from a technical point of view the connection infrastructures of potential acquisitions of Wind farms or Photovoltaic plants in operation, you will share learnings and best practice between the global Renewables businesses and internally.
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate as minimum a degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent Engineering degree.
Being able to write and speak in English language level at level C2 or higher, you will possess experience from a Renewables / Power Generation / Power Networks industry.
With technical knowledge and experience of Substation main electrical equipment (33 kV) generators, transformers, switchgear, cables, overhead lines and protection systems, you will be able to investigate and resolve technical problems of electrical components, providing creative solutions when required.
Familiar with industry standards and regulations (BS, IEC), you will possess skill within design and maintenance of power transformers, substations and lines.
Managing external resource including writing specifications, evaluating tender returns and awarding Contractors, you will be a strong communicator and negotiator with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organisation as well as third parties such as equipment suppliers, Contractors, Consultants and Technical experts (i.e. Laboratories).
Project managing third parties to provide technical service to the Operations Engineering team, you will be familiar with Health & Safety management skills including awareness of safe systems of work and permit requirements for site activities.
