Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive HR People & Culture Generalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting various People & Culture functions, including recruitment, onboarding, compliance, culture building, DEI integration, and HR data analytics. This position requires a strong understanding of human resources management and the ability to work collaboratively across departments to foster a positive organizational culture aligned with our mission and values. This role will play a critical role in attracting, retaining, and developing a talented, committed, and diverse team.
This position reports to the Director of People & Culture and regularly collaborates with the Benefits & Payroll Administrator, Operations Manager, Office Manager & Technology Assistant, and the COO.
Key responsibilities include:
- Talent Acquisition:
- Manage the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and support in hiring decisions.
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to attract top talent.
- Manage candidates via the applicant tracking system.
- Conduct background and reference checks.
- Onboarding and Training:
- Oversee design and delivery of new employee orientation plans, ensuring a smooth and welcoming onboarding process for new employees. Collaborate cross functionally to enhance onboarding efforts. Manage employee orientation programs to ensure new hires are effectively integrated into the organizational culture.
- Ensure completion of all new hire paperwork and enrollment in assigned training.
- Implement and administer training and educational programs for existing employees (e.g. enrollment communications, tracking and management of completions, etc.). Ensure mandatory trainings are conducted per the organizational calendar.
- Support proactive efforts to manage employee development plans and career progression.
- Employee Relations:
- Be a trusted partner to staff on questions, concerns and issues. Build effective relationships internally and externally across all levels to identify gaps and effectively drive our mission strategy forward.
- Work with staff and management to resolve employee complaints and grievances. Escalate to the Director as needed.
- Support proactive efforts to promote a positive, fun, and engaging work environment (e.g., rewards and recognition, events, etc.)
- Support Process Administration:
- Prepare payroll change documentation and ensure proper approvals and delivery to payroll for processing and updates to HR database.
- Support Performance Review and Compensation Adjustment processes.
- Assist in Open Enrollment – participate in benefits review and decision making, support open enrollment communications and administration.
- Manage employee offboarding process (exit interview scheduling, logistics and communications with exiting employee, etc.).
- Compliance:
- Stay updated on employment laws and regulations.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and employment laws.
- Manage compliance documentation and reporting.
- Data Analytics & Management
- Administer employee surveys and collaborate with Director and COO on action plans to address survey results and comments.
- Generate reports and presentations for audiences such as the Executive and Leadership teams on key metrics, such as retention/turnover, employee satisfaction, and workforce demographics.
- Maintain accurate employee records through data entry and data management processes.
- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
- Support implementation of organizational DEI plan
- Support development and implementation of DEI trainings in partnership with Director, COO and DEI Working Group
- Hold staff and organization accountable to employing an equity and inclusion lens in our work and professional relationships.
- General Duties
- Collaborate with the Director of People & Culture on efforts to develop and implement new policies, procedures and plans.
- Assist in documentation and implementation of standard operating procedures for People & Culture and associated departments and efforts.
- Support internal communications efforts – drafting slides, emails or other communications for staff communications.
- Support Rewards & Recognition program implementation – birthday and anniversary celebrations, awards program administration, etc.
- Maintain Employee Handbook and support efforts to enhance, organize and/or refine relevant policies or procedures.
- Development and implementation of refinements to the database (BambooHR).
- Support Director in gathering research and information on relevant topics as assigned.
- Collaborate with Director to ensure shared files and HR data are organized and documents are managed in alignment with organizational guidelines and document retention policy.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 4+ years of relevant experience required
- PHR or similar certification preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs required
- Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations
- Proven experience in recruitment, employee relations, onboarding/orientation planning, and performance management
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
- Proficient in interviewing techniques and recruitment strategies.
- Strong administrative skills with attention to detail for effective data management.
- Familiarity with human resources databases and other tools. Experience with BambooHR preferred.
- Experience with the full Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Asana or similar project management experience helpful.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Some travel predominantly within California
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Regularly sits at a desk or computer
- Actively utilizes computers, telephones and other office equipment
- Frequently moves about the office to collaborate with colleagues
- Periodically required to hike through forest land while working off-site, including walking on uneven ground, climbing over obstacles, and accessing remote locations.
- Occasionally lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
Work Schedule:
This role is hybrid, with a minimum of 2 days onsite in our San Francisco headquarters per week. Our weekly in office day is Tuesday (when everyone living in the SF Bay Area is required to come in). Additional days are based on business needs.
Compensation & Benefits:
As a full-time salaried employee, you will be eligible for full benefits, which include medical, dental, and vision insurance, three weeks of vacation annually plus holidays, and a 401k retirement plan, currently with an up to 8% company match. We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and internal/external equity considerations; the hiring range for this position is $ 82,000- 91,000 per year.
