JOB SUMMARY: These positions are Full-time temporary appointments not-to-exceed one year with potential to be extended for an additional one year for a maximum of two years based on agency needs and potential funding. The purpose of these positions is to perform a variety of journey-level carpentry trade work need to construct, alter, maintain, and repair wooden buildings, structures, cabins, ships, boats, docks, boardwalks, and other items made of wood, wood substitutes, and composite building materials. MAJOR DUTIES: Perform a variety of journey-level carpentry work needed to construct, alter, maintain, and repair wooden buildings, structures, cabins, ships, boats, docks, boardwalks, bridges, floors, decks, handrails, fences, signs, partitions, panels, and/or other items made of wood, wood substitutes, and composite building materials. Use skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Plan and carry out carpentry projects from initial layout to completion, ensuring accuracy, spacing, fit, structural soundness, and finished appearance. Construct and repair a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, Set up and operate a wide variety of woodworking machines and tools. Assemble items with a variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, biscuit, and mortise and tenon, and use various glues and adhesives to secure wood pieces, veneers, and counter tops. Use wood, metal, and various composite materials when installing or replacing interior partitions, flooring, panels, suspended ceilings,counter tops, and moldings. Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently, and determine the layout and work sequences and types of lumber or special related materials.
