About
I am an environmental and sustainability graduate working at the intersection of climate, coastal ecosystems, and socio-ecological transitions. My path into this space began in carbon consulting, where I supported greenhouse gas (GHG) assessments for nature-based tourism and conservation clients. This involved compiling full-scope emissions inventories, gathering and structuring operational data across energy, transport, waste, and procurement, and contributing to clear sustainability and carbon reporting. Through this, I developed an ability to work with diverse stakeholders, making technical processes like GHG reporting both accessible and applicable within real-world operations.
Building on this foundation, I pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Development (Cum Laude) at Stellenbosch University, following an undergraduate degree in Environmental Management and Development. My studies deepened my understanding of socio-ecological systems, climate governance, and nature-based solutions, with a particular focus on biodiversity, water–food–energy nexuses, and just transitions within African contexts.
Alongside my academic and technical background, much of my practical work has taken place in coastal and field-based environments across southern and eastern Africa. I have been involved in fisheries research, marine monitoring, eco-lodge management, ocean-based guiding, and community-linked conservation initiatives. These experiences shaped how I understand environmental work on the ground, particularly the importance of aligning ecological goals with community livelihoods. They have also exposed me to the realities facing many of Africa’s coastal systems. Witnessing estuary health and mangrove ecosystems decline within my lifetime has been deeply galvanising, reinforcing my commitment to coastal conservation.
Through this combination of carbon reporting and field-based exposure, I have developed a strong interest in the blue economy and the role of community-led, nature-based solutions in climate mitigation. I am particularly drawn to work that connects environmental data, ecosystem restoration, and local stewardship, and I am motivated to contribute to initiatives that operate across these spaces.
