About
I am passionate about renewable energy and sustainability and, extremely versatile with a wealth of financial controlling, compliance, business partnering and financial reporting experience, priding myself in my ability to run robust, well organised, and effective finance departments. I have a proven track record of implementing, tightening, and developing systems and controls to effectively create a “no surprises” culture and instil confidence.
Since qualifying as an ACA with mid-tier audit practice Kingston Smith my career has progressed through roles in a range of businesses from start-ups, through growing SMEs and listed businesses to large international groups. My range of experience in both longer-term roles and interim positions demonstrates that I am equally adept at both managing and operating finance departments on an ongoing basis, and joining businesses undergoing change to provide a competent and stabilising pair of hands.
At Naked Energy I implemented the Cin7 cost accounting and inventory management system and Xero accounting software to provide the financial controls, processes, and discipline necessary to enable the business, an innovative solar energy developer and manufacturer, to scale rapidly ahead of a series B funding round. An extremely hands-on role at the same time highly commercial and providing operational support across the entire business.
In the No.1 finance position at PE backed start-up developer Partnerships for Renewables I efficiently set-up the finance systems from scratch, formed and controlled multiple SPVs, and, prepared and presented detailed analysis of the business performance and forecasts directly to the Board and Shareholders.
Within the multi-national VolkerWessels group I built strong working relationships with finance and non-finance colleagues alike within a large shared-service department whilst operating with a great deal of autonomy. I managed a team, controlling five entities in the offshore wind industry and business partnered with multiple project teams controlling a division that grew rapidly to a combined turnover in excess of £100m.
