Senior Cost Engineer - Manchester Based Project

Contract Position - Outside IR35 (Project scope through to Dec 2026) up to £500/Day DOE.

On site presence of 2-3 days every week/fortnight.

Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning Project. - full EPCC experience required.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Cost Engineer to join our clients innovative Manchester project team. This cutting-edge initiative aims to reduce renewable energy waste and provide clean, reliable, and cost-efficient long-duration energy storage. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing project costs, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure efficient and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Cost Management and Budgeting
Develop and maintain cost management processes and systems for the project
Create work breakdown structures (WBS) and produce the control budget
Assign control budget through an organizational structure (OBS)
Monitor budgets, commitments, value of work done (VoWD), invoices, forecasts, and variances in a cost system report by WBS
Establish cost plans and S curves using project schedules, highlighting planned, actual, and forecast costs

Value of Work Done (VoWD) Process
Implement VoWD process for different project phases (engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning)
Input VoWD into company SAP system through goods service receipt

Cost Trend Analysis and Forecasting
Manage cost trend database for variance analysis against control budget and project forecasting1.
Present cost trends to obtain project management approval for forecast inclusion

Change Control and Risk Management
Coordinate change control meetings and validate cost estimates for approved changes1.
Update control budgets and quantities within the cost system
Coordinate and participate in project risk reviews
Report contingency usage and review forecast contingency usage based on project risk information

Collaboration and Reporting
Work with company Finance to ensure accurate cost information in SAP for the project
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to align project objectives and financial goals
Support procurement processes, including preparing cost estimates, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts

Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience
Degree in Engineering, Construction, or related field
Minimum 10 years of experience as a Senior Cost Engineer in the energy industry - renewables, oil & gas, petrochemical, national grid

Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of cost management methodologies and tools, focusing on large-scale engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning projects.
Proficiency in cost engineering software, SAP, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Soft Skills
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
