We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Sustainability Engineer to lead our energy and sustainability initiatives across various construction projects. The ideal candidate will manage, design, develop, and evaluate energy-related projects to optimise costs and improve energy efficiency during all stages of construction.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management and Leadership
- Lead and manage all aspects of Energy & Sustainability Engineering for internal and external projects
- Ensure project performance and profitability while maintaining excellent client care
- Manage, appoint, and audit subcontractors and their information as needed
- Mentor and develop less experienced engineers
- Represent the company at client meetings, surveys, and training sessions
Technical Expertise
- Coordinate dynamic thermal modelling (IESVE) analysis, including Part L Assessments, Comfort Analysis (TM52/59), natural ventilation studies, and daylighting
- Oversee BREEAM-related studies on thermal comfort, low and zero carbon technologies, emission reduction, predicted operational energy, and daylighting
- Lead residential Part L assessments using accredited SAP software for large-scale energy strategies
- Prepare Energy & Sustainability Statements for planning submissions, coordinating input from various design team stakeholders
- Conduct domestic and/or non-domestic EPCs for new and existing buildings
Reporting and Communication
- Prepare high-quality, clear, and concise reports communicating issues and conclusions
- Develop sustainability and energy strategies as a core part of the role
- Support bidding for new opportunities, including contributions to marketing materials and attendance at project interviews
Innovation and Collaboration
- Lead change in new systems and technologies
- Liaise and collaborate with other company offices on relevant matters
- Maintain and promote the company's reputation within the industry
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum degree in Building Services (Sustainability/Electrical/Mechanical/Civil-Structural Engineering) with additional qualifications in Energy/Sustainability
- Minimum three years' experience as a Sustainability Engineer, preferably in a consultancy environment
- 1-2 years' experience in Thermal Modelling using IES VE
- Solid understanding of MEP services and current Building Regulations (Part L and Part F)
Desirable Qualifications
- Qualified Domestic / Non-Domestic EPC Assessor
- Working towards Chartered status or professional membership
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency in SAP, SBEM, IESVE, Daylight, Thermal comfort, and Heating and cooling calculations
- Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations legislation
- Familiarity with CIBSE, BS, and IS Standards
- Excellent problem-solving and IT skills
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities
- Proven teamwork skills and strong commercial awareness
