JOB SUMMARY: This position is part of the Department of Energy's, Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs. As a Senior Tribal Relations Specialist, you will act as the subject matter expert regarding Federal-Tribal relationships, and Federal Indian law, statutes and guidance. You will advise others on a wide range of matters pertaining to Federal trust responsibility and financing issues on a variety of energy programs in Indian Country. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Senior Tribal Relations Specialist, you will: Provide others with an understanding of a variety of legal principles that have a major impact on energy programs affecting Tribal Nations and governments. Collaborate with colleagues in other Departmental elements on Tribal activities related to energy project financing and revenue generation. Participate in meetings, conferences, hearings and briefings regarding treaties, legal statues, laws and decisions that impact energy projects on Tribal lands, reservations, and Sacred land. Lead efforts to justify or settle matters involving significant or controversial issues that may affect the Tribes or Tribal communities, including providing recommendations based on Tribal concerns or input that may affect major programs or significantly change the scope of programmatic activities.
