Job Title: Engineer - Electric System Engineering
Reports to: Unit Manager Customer Funded Development
Job Summary
The Engineer - Electrical within the Projects Organization is responsible for overseeing the portfolio of projects assigned to the unit. This role ensures that each project adheres to regulatory requirements, company standards, and maintain consistency through. Responsible for the design, review and approve, protection & control equipment design on AVANGRID’s electric delivery infrastructure in New York (NYSEG and RG&E).
Ensure all protection system designs meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards (NESC, FERC, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, NY PSC, etc.). The Senior Electrical Engineer will report directly to the Unit Manager and work closely with cross-functional project teams to support project needs as directed by the Project Manager and Unit Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engineering design, estimating, and analysis of the electric transmission and substation protection systems in support of the capital and customer funded projects.
- Develops engineering conceptual design for substations and transmission line projects on Utilities.
- Participate on the detailed design, performing engineering reviews, calculations and/or recommending drawings or system improvements, according standards or international codes.
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis.
- Review and approve detailed protection system designs, including settings, developed both internally and by engineering consultants.
- Review and approve work of engineering contractors who provide automation engineering and design services to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Oversee quality aspects of engineering, including compliance with design standards and accuracy of documentation, field analysis and reporting, and test data.
- Lead collaborative analysis and review of projects, studies, and best practices with Engineering peers.
- Review of large customer interconnections and distributed energy resource interconnections to substations, transmission circuits and distribution circuits.
- Engineering design, estimating, and analysis of the electric transmission and substation protection systems in support of the capital and customer construction programs.
- Engineering calculations and analysis.
- Review and approve detailed protection system designs, including settings, developed both internally and by engineering consultants.
- Assists during storm restoration effort.
- Provides engineering support during construction and testing and commissioning phases when required.
Required Qualifications
- 4 years of experience in Engineering or 2 years of experience as P&C Electrical Engineer
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology.
- Professional Engineer or ability to obtain certification preferred.
- Experience with power system protection applications such as ASPEN OneLiner and ASPEN Line Database.
- Knowledge of Interconnection Standards such as IEEE-1547
- Knowledge of FERC/NERC/NPCC and state regulations such as NERC PRC standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge on Electric substations and transmission systems planning, operations, and/or protection.
- Knowledge of running and analyzing electric power load flows.
- Knowledge of FERC and state regulations.
- Experience utilizing AutoCAD and other Engineering tools.
- Experience working with contractors.
