The Electrical Engineer within the Digital Grid organization is responsible for overseeing the portfolio of projects assigned to the unit. This role ensures that each project adheres to regulatory requirements, company standards, and maintain consistency through. The Electrical Engineer will report directly to the Unit Manager and work closely with cross-functional project teams to support project needs as directed by the Project Manager and Unit Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs engineering analyses of the electric distribution, electric substation, and transmission system and recommends actions to develop design options or recommendations for major substations and transmission construction projects.
- Develops engineer conceptual design for distribution, substation and transmission line projects on Utilities.
- Participate on the detailed design, performing engineering reviews, calculations and/or recommending drawings or system improvements, according standards or international codes.
- Originates electric system and component reliability studies and outage contingency plans.
- Creates BID Forms for engineering services and/or PayCU’s for Construction services, to follow the company’s procurement policies.
- Ensure that all electrical documents are issued on time. Develops and validates information needed for engineering analyses and applies engineering judgment to solve complex technical problems.
- Analyze and assess complex distribution and transmission systems at numerous voltage levels.
- Document and communicate results and recommendations as appropriate including data manipulation, report writing, and summary presentations.
- Oversee quality aspects of engineering, including compliance with design standards and accuracy of documentation, field analysis and reporting, and test data.
- Lead collaborative analysis and review of projects, studies, and best practices with Engineering peers.
- Effectively manage external engineering partners. Ensure project risks are identified, understood, and addressed on time.
- Participate in site inspections and project meetings as needs arise.
- Assists during storm restoration effort.
- Directs engineering contractors and consultants. Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines, project management and client teams.
- Implements new technology to enhance power system performance when required.
- Provides power system commissioning support and supervision when required.
- Provides engineering support during construction and testing and commissioning phases when required.
- Provide SAP support for work order creation and release including but not limited to: adding materials, JPP reconciliation, malfunction end date, task bask routing management.
Required Qualifications
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering and design for utilities.
- CAD Drafting, PLS-CADD Modeling, and other Engineering tools.
- Construction and Outage Sequencing.
- Industry Codes, Standards, and Regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge on Electric distribution, substation and transmission systems planning, operations, and/or protection.
- Knowledge of running and analyzing electric power load flows.
- Knowledge of FERC and state regulations.
- Experience utilizing AutoCAD and other Engineering tools.
- Experience working with contractors.
