McCain Foods is currently looking for a Sr Director, Health, Safety & Environment Leader (HSE) to join our leadership team in Villeneuve D’Ascq France. In this position, you will report to the Regional President of Continental Europe with a dotted line to the VP of Global Health & Safety. You will be responsible for the overall development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE strategies, policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives that result in a culture of sustainable and consistent safe work performance across our European operations.
The successful incumbent will also be responsible for leading the Safety Transformation required to build an interdependent safety culture while reducing healthy and safety risk exposure across the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Culture: Promote a culture where safety is a core value, leading initiatives to engage at all levels in safe work practices and continuous improvement. A culture of For Us, For Family that keeps our employees, contractors and visitors safe.
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement HSE strategies that align with global objectives and local requirements. Ensure that HSE programs are integrated into the daily operations across all sites within the region. (e.g. Key Elements of Safety, 10 Golden Rules, Fryer Fire Risk Program, Serious and Fatal Incident prevention, Brain Centered Safety etc.)
- Compliance and Risk Management: Oversee compliance with local, regional, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations, ensuring readiness for audits and inspections.
- Emergency Preparedness: Ensure all facilities have up-to-date emergency response plans and that crisis management procedures are well-defined and regularly tested.
- Environmental Stewardship: Drive the development and execution of sustainability initiatives, including waste management, energy efficiency, and water conservation. Ensure that environmental impacts are minimized, and that the region meets its sustainability targets.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the direct and indirect HSE team. Provide leadership and influence to ensure effective implementation of HSE initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts to continuously improve HSE processes and systems. Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and drive accountability.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other functional leaders (e.g., Engineering, Maintenance, Quality Assurance) to ensure HSE considerations are integrated into all aspects of operations and projects.
- Reporting and Analysis: Oversee the accurate reporting and analysis of HSE data. Use insights from this data to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety or business administration with focus on Safety or Advanced Safety Certificate, Certified Safety Professional or equivalent experience as a safety professional.
- 8-10 years of progressive experience in HSE roles, including experience in a leadership position within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices, with demonstrated ability to manage compliance and drive cultural change.
- Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization. · Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
