ERM is hiring a Managing Consultant, Environmental Engineer/Scientist to join our Sustainable Operations technical team in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area supporting clients primarily based in the Northern California area, but with a national and global footprint. In this position you will provide project management and senior technical assistance in a variety of environmental compliance opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of environmental compliance subjects including management systems, storm water, SPCC, water/wastewater, and hazardous materials and waste programs with specific knowledge of California regulatory requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical expertise, oversight, and quality control on environmental permitting and compliance projects and related activities in support of ERM clients’ projects and facilities.
Execute task and project management requirements to assist in the implementation of environmental compliance and management system programs and processes. Specific duties may include: project and task budget tracking, invoice review, staff coordination and mentoring, regulatory assessments, conducting programmatic management of change (MOC) tasks, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) evaluations, and documentation of best practices and lessons learned.
Participate or lead process improvement initiatives and strategies and conduct inspections with regulatory agencies.
Oversee development of plans, permits, and reports for EHS Compliance Projects: hazardous waste, SPCC, storm water, NPDES, and wastewater programs.
Perform environmental compliance assessments and audits at industrial and commercial facilities and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Specific focus on SPCC, storm water, and hazardous waste tank integrity assessments in accordance with 22 CCR 66265.
Conduct regulatory and/or management system audits or assessments.
Implements the Construction and Industrial General Permits in California including: conducting site inspections/audits; preparing SWPPPs, site maps, ERAs and Technical Reports, identifying relevant BMPs; familiarity with SMARTS and 2022 CGP requirements.
Provide expertise in applicable environmental regulations including NPDES, SPCC, water, and waste and industry applications as a member of a technology team with the support of other ERM subject matter experts.
Be an active team member on projects and maintain client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations.
Provide general environmental compliance support to clients, including on site services, as needed.
Ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
Self-motivated support of ERM Partners-in-Charge and Project Managers to effectively manage and deliver projects.
Build strong collaborative relationships with our clients and other ERM employees.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors in environmental studies/science, environmental, civil, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or related field.
4+ years of relevant experience.
Ability to manage multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and achieve ERM’s high quality standards on project deliverables.
Ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience writing comprehensive technical reports and standards. Strong presentation skills for client meetings and other events.
Ability to travel 50-100% within the SF Bay Area and some occasional travel outside of the local Bay Area.
Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Experience with hazardous waste tank integrity assessments in accordance with 22 CCR 66265.
Professional Engineer registration (ability to acquire in California immediately).
HAZWOPER, CHMM, or similar certification.
Qualified Stormwater Developer (QSD) or Qualified Stormwater Practitioner (QSP) certification or easily obtainable.
Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP) certification or easily obtainable.
For the Managing Consultant, Compliance Engineer/Scientist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $95,091 – $122,541 USD. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
