After several years conducting research associated with the Amazon rainforest, UTEC has decided to establish The Amazon Sustainability Research Institute (ASRI), to coordinate our efforts towards a common goal: promote the conservation and resilience of the Amazon rainforest.
ASRI conducts multidisciplinary cutting-edge research and technological innovation focused on the sustainability and conservation of the Amazon rainforest. With an emphasis on indigenous communities, sustainable value chains, and a comprehensive analysis of all factors relevant to the Amazonian ecosystem, ASRI aims to generate scientific knowledge, foster capacity building, and disseminate information to support informed decision-making.
In addition to understanding the sophisticated processes within Amazonian ecosystems and their intertwining with global phenomena, ASRI’s work also involves creating structural conditions that enable progress in the Amazon region, including access to energy, clean water, transportation, communication infrastructure, and the sustainable valorisation of forest resources. Addressing these challenges is crucial not only for fostering sustainable biobusiness but also for supporting the survival and progress of local communities and their ancestral traditions. Overcoming these obstacles would generate numerous positive outcomes and ensure a lasting impact of conservation efforts.
ASRI operates within the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC) in Peru.
