Job Description
The Environmental Sustainability research comprises three main areas: shale gas & oil-produced water treatment, prediction of air quality trends in the context of climate change, and life cycle assessment (LCA) of various energy portfolios and scenarios. The Center also has several other ongoing research projects in the broader environmental sustainability area. The candidate must have the necessary background and be responsible for all the tasks related to the above research and other funded projects in the Center.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
Responsibilities:
Conduct high-quality research on the treatment of different wastewaters, including but not limited to poultry processing wastewater, produced water from shale oil and gas extraction, treatment of waters containing micro and nano plastics and PFAs, among others, using different membranes and other separation technologies. These include forward and reverse osmosis, ultra and microfiltration, air gap membrane distillation, and ceramic membrane bioreactors, to mention a few.
Increase center’s research productivity by developing and submitting new proposals for funding and publishing high quality journal articles, and grant reports.
Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students with research projects and encourage them to present and publish.
Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research, well organized, capable of multi-tasking, and has excellent documentation skills.
Perform other duties to assist the center director and the research team.
Required Education and Experience
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil (with Environmental focus) Engineering, or other related engineering or science fields.
No prior experience needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Preferred Education and Experience:
One to two years of high-quality research experience with membrane processes, working with laboratory analytical equipment (GC, HPLC, etc.).
Experience with either writing or assisting with grant proposals.
High-quality record of publications.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams of faculty, staff, and graduate and undergraduate students.
