Within the CSG, the Human Exploration and Space Flight (HESF) Division supports our NASA customer in all aspects of human space flight. We are looking for a Deputy Space Environments Systems Management Engineer (Project Engineer/Sr. Project Engineer – Systems Engineering). In this role you will support the NASA Johnson Space Center’s Materials and Processes Branch within the Structural Engineering Division as a Deputy Space Environments Systems Manager. This department provides space environments insight and program level support to various human spaceflight programs.
Work Model
This is a full-time position based at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX, which requires 100% onsite work.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Serve as a space environment expert across various capabilities supporting NASA Artemis mission objectives
- Serve as a highly proactive technical specialist in space environments systems engineering, working closely across various engineering disciplines
- Address all aspects related to natural and induced space environments and associated effects on hardware
- Perform detailed system level analysis and formulate recommendations to senior-level program management on space environment systems
- Lead and support management of Axiom Commercial Segment (AxCS) and AxCS-ISS integration; U.S. Deorbit Vehicle (USDV) and USDV-ISS integration; and Commercial Destination Free Flyer (CDFF) suppliers.
- Provide oversight and insight responsibility of Space Environments for multiple programs
- Perform requirements development tasks, cross-program interface management, vendor product reviews
- Monitor technical status of development activities, testing, and operations planning
- Identify and/or evaluate technical issues and hazards/concerns and analyze technical information
- Conduct systems engineering studies, including developing models/methodologies to address space environments/effects issues and managing risks
- Plan and execute targeted verification activities,
- Prepare technical reports, briefings, and/or presentations to appropriate boards, panels and/or technical/status meetings
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for the < Project Engineer- Systems Engineering >
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Engineering, Science, or another technical discipline
- At least 6 years’ experience working in engineering disciplines, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment across large government programs
- Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to working across diverse teams and multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously
- Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills, including development of and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner
- Understanding of specific NASA Human Spaceflight topics
- Versed in architecting engineering solutions
- Ability to work within a diverse team environment of many engineering disciplines, where the team is distributed across multiple NASA and Aerospace Corporation organizations, projects, and programs
- Proven expertise in managing multiple concurrent tasks and provide direction on competing priorities
- Willing to travel occasionally to work location or customer site/domestically/internationally approx. 10%.
- This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the < Senior Project Engineer- Systems Engineering > include:
- At least 10 years of experience with NASA or on NASA commercial systems
- Expertise in building on NASA Human Spaceflight topics as they relate to planetary exploration
- Highly skilled at architecting and implementing solutions working across various integrated systems
- Extensive education and experience with evaluating and assessing space environments and related influences and effects from external factors
- Proven leadership and ability to lead multidisciplinary tasks and projects
