The position supports the mission of the Department of Environmental Science by coordinating and instructional laboratory activities, maintaining safety and inventory records, and ensuring proper operation of vehicles and field storage locations.
A bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant work experience are required.
A master’s degree and three years of relevant work experience are preferred.
Applications must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What you will do
- Assist faculty members teaching multiple labs including Environmental Analysis (ENV 1101) and Exploring Environmental Issues (ENV 1301).
- Supervise graduate students in setting up and instructing all labs for the department and teach lab sections as needed.
- Organize, prepare, and maintain grade and attendance records.
- Supervise the preparation of quizzes to be administered in lab.
- Maintain and supervise the use of lab equipment, and order lab equipment and supplies as needed.
- Develop and make trial runs of new experiments, revise and update lab handouts, and assemble materials needed each week for lab.
- Organize, prepare and conduct weekly preparatory meetings with graduate teaching assistants.
- Hire, supervise and approve timecards for undergraduate work study lab assistants.
- Assist faculty in preparation of annual budgets for equipment and supplies, and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment used in the various labs.
- Maintain laboratory safety.
- Prepare policy and procedure sheets describing various aspects of conducting safe and efficient laboratory exercises.
- Oversee use and safety disposal of hazardous materials according to University guidelines.
- Design and implement policy statement for understanding and use of safety equipment by Teaching Assistants, Learning Assistant's, and students.
- Prepare needed safety reports and maintain safety records for laboratories.
- Ensure proper maintenance of on Environmental Science vehicles.
- Keep inventory of vehicles, maintain cleanliness of vehicles, maintain vehicle scheduling logistics for faculty/students, and ensure vehicles up-to-date with inspections and registration.
- Ensure that Field storage locations are operational, accessible, and secure.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission.
- Ability to comply with university policies.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
