GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Responsible for the collection, preservation and transportation of industrial and water reclamation facility wastewater samples to the laboratory. Keeps accurate records, prepares written reports, and maintains sampling equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects, preserves, and transports industrial and wastewater water reclamation facility samples to the laboratory for analysis. Assists in inspections as directed.
- Accurately keeps records of samples collected and all field measurements. Performs field tests and conducts sampling QC checks.
- Operates, cleans, maintains, and calibrates sampling equipment, vehicles, and work area.
- Conducts investigative sampling at random points in the collection system related to industrial and commercial discharges. Communicates with industrial contacts as directed in the sample collection protocol.
- Follows established work procedures and practices.
- Follows safety practices and guidelines at all times, including wearing proper personal protective/safety equipment due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, biological hazards, toxic/flammable compressed gases and confined spaces.
- Undertakes any reasonable request within capabilities that is for the good of the community and the utility.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Minimum (required):
- High School graduate or GED.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Hold and maintain a valid Arkansas driver's license.
- Obtain and maintain an Arkansas Class I Wastewater License within 3 years.
Experience & Training
- Successful completion of 2 semesters of high school chemistry, biology, and algebra; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 1 year of experience in performing water/wastewater sampling is preferred.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:
- Basic principles, techniques, and equipment used to collect water/wastewater samples.
- Basic mathematics.
- Basic industrial treatment technologies.
- Use of computers using Windows based word-processing, spreadsheet, and database application software.
- Making accurate measurements and computations.
- Performing basic field tests.
- Maintaining and repairing sampling equipment.
- Proofreading work to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Recognizing hazards associated with malfunctioning equipment and unsafe conditions.
- Safely driving LRWRA vehicles while carrying out job duties.
- Hold and maintain a valid Arkansas driver's license.
- Obtain and maintain an Arkansas Class I Wastewater License within 3 years.
- Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Apply approved techniques in performing sampling procedures and field tests.
- Take representative wastewater samples.
- Keep accurate records and make precise determinations.
- Transport, lift, and set up sampling equipment on a routine basis without assistance.
- Work in weather and terrain extremes.
- Provide a reliable record of attendance, including rotating work duty after normal working hours and on weekends and holidays.
This position has been evaluated as to whether a momentary lapse of attention may result in grave and immediate danger to the employee, coworkers, or the public. If the designation is yes, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA) of 2016 will govern working conditions. If no, the AMMA will not apply to the position.
This position has been evaluated as to the mandated wearing of a company uniform during working hours.
