The Department of Environmental Science in the College of Arts & Sciences at American University invites applications for two term faculty positions for Academic Year 2018–2019. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The appointments are 9-month term positions and will commence on August 27, 2018.
Courses taught may include, but are not limited to, introductory courses in environmental science and upper-level courses in the areas of the candidate's expertise. For the laboratory coordinator position, applicants who have experience incorporating computational tools (for example, R, python, MatLab, GIS, and/or IDL) and approaches in teaching are especially welcome to apply. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in Departmental, College, and University activities and service. Although not required, term faculty are encouraged to pursue independent research programs that include graduate and undergraduate students.
Applicants should hold a PhD or other relevant terminal degree. One position will require the incumbent to serve as the coordinator of the environmental science teaching laboratories, in addition to teaching in the Department. A combination of course and laboratory teaching equivalent to 6 courses per academic year is required. Course assignments and Lab Coordinator duties will be made in consultation with the Department chair. To prepare the laboratories for the Fall semester, this position will commence on August 1, 2018, in a part-time, paid capacity. The second position will be to teach in the department, with 6 courses per academic year required.
