Health, Safety, Security & Environment Specialist Job Description
Summary: This position will provide Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) support to our Kelchner construction business. The HSSE Specialist will be expected to spend approximately 100% of their time in the field at various client sites. This position will be responsible for a wide range of HSSE guidance and coaching support to personnel, management, and contractors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide HSSE advice, assistance and support to all Laborers, Operators, Drivers, Supervisors, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Safety Staff
- Support and coach key Operations and support personnel in appropriate HSSE procedures and policies including Excavations – Underground Utility Protection – Job Safety Analysis and Risk Planning
- Promote a behavior-based approach to HSSE and provide an atmosphere that reduces risk associated with all work activities
- Participate in incident and serious near miss investigations and provide guidance to Operations when conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
- Provide support to the HSSE Director to ensure that all the company's accident and incident report forms are properly filled out and completed within 24 hours after incident
- Assists in JSA pre-job risk mitigation preparation for job tasks and verifies these are correctly and accurately completed every day
- Stays current on all new and proposed federal, state, and local safety and health regulations
- Documents and conducts safety training sessions and site inspections daily to ensure that company employees are following safety policies and procedures
- Verify and document all identified hazards are corrected in a timely manner
- Evaluates the effectiveness of safety policies and procedures and provides routine feedback to management
Skills / Qualifications
- Experience in construction, safety or related technical field
- OSHA 30 Card
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
- The drive to produce quality work every time
- The ability to work 55-60 hours a week on a regular basis
- The ability to work Saturdays and occasionally on Sunday’s
- Valid Driver's License with the ability to be insured by the company’s insurance and operate a company owned vehicle
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job with or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must have the ability to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for long periods. Must be able to handle and manipulate objects on a repetitive basis. Ability to talk and see well to distinguish between back up alarms, voices, and other normal sounds consistent with construction job sites. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job with or without reasonable accommodations, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibrations. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions as well as heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
