Job Summary:

The Payroll Operational Excellence Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of Payroll processes and systems, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance in both US and Canada. This role will manage the optimization and maintenance of our payroll processes and systems, particularly in areas such as tax, leading digitalization and automation initiatives, UKG system enhancements and payroll processing as and when needed. In this role you will be responsible for leading and fostering proactive collaboration with customers and key internal and external business partners and stakeholders while driving operational excellence throughout our payroll service delivery model. In addition, this candidate will lead a team of Payroll Specialists responsible for delivering efficient, on-time payroll services across Hydro North America.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, prior experience with payroll in a manufacturing environment, and a commitment to enhancing operational performance. As a key member of the GBS HR Payroll team, the Payroll Operational Excellence Team Lead will play a pivotal role in improving payroll workflows, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering efficient and accurate payroll services across the organization.
Required Education/Experience:
- BSC/BA in Business Administration.
- Minimum of 15+ years of experience in payroll related operations, with a minimum of 10 years of payroll and employment tax experience in a large, complex organization.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Lead the payroll team’s activities across multiple locations delivering efficient processes and controls resulting in timely and accurate payrolls.
- Assists with audits of internal records, tax filings and related documentation.
- Look for ways to improve and develop efficiencies and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for payroll processes and procedures.
- Assists with year-end financial audit, annual insurance audits and annual 401(k) audit preparation, and ad hoc reporting, as required.
- Perform payroll processing duties as a backup as and when needed.
- Responsible for tracking and testing of legislative/regulatory changes, application enhancements, and system modifications.
- Keep abreast of current and changing payroll and employment tax laws.
- Research, determine root cause, and resolve incoming tax notices from various agencies.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset, staying adaptable to changing business dynamics and continuously evolving sourcing strategies to meet organizational needs.
- Champion the Hydro Business System across the North America Payroll Organization.
- Support the Head of Payroll with all special projects.
