Job Summary
We are seeking a Trading Analyst to join our Structuring, Trading and Analytics team. Reporting to the Director of Structuring, Trading and Analytics, this role focuses on the trading activities related to our commercially operational assets. The successful candidate will provide critical analysis to support strategic decisions, ensuring the financial health and market competitiveness of our energy projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain tools for analyzing assets, trading positions, and strategies, including market information, price forecasting models, and portfolio optimization.
- Build and enhance Power BI and Python-based tools to track asset performance, including PPA revenue, basis exposure, forward pricing, and asset valuation inputs.
- Conduct financial and operational risk analysis related to market and regulatory changes.
- Provide market analysis reports to the Director of Structuring, Trading, and Analytics, identifying risks and opportunities in the PJM and MISO regions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate market insights into operational strategies and risk management practices.
- Monitor market conditions and use advanced analytics to predict trends and assess impacts on project valuations.
- Research and validate assumptions, reconciling discrepancies between industry sources, forecasts, and actual results.
- Prepare governance materials for risk and board meetings.
- Partner with IT and other business units to support long-term data platform strategy and analytics initiatives.
- Work closely with procurement to ensure the team can purchase and maintain software critical to the department.
- Coordinate efforts around Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) including registration, tracking, and trading.
Location: Position is local to Houston with a hybrid office policy. Position may require periodic travel for team meetings, events or determined on an as needed basis.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in financial modeling, market analysis, and risk assessment within the energy sector.
- Proficient in analytical and modeling tools such as Python, Power BI, and industry-specific software.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of effectively presenting complex financial and market information.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of electricity markets and their regulatory environments, preferably in MISO and PJM.
- Prior experience in renewable energy trading or market operations preferred.
- Familiarity with risk management strategies and tools applicable to the energy sector.
