About The Role
TransAlta is currently recruiting for a team of solar field technicians for their North Carolina solar assets.
The purpose of this position is to ensure the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the North Carolina solar porfolio; through the application of operating/maintenance standards, procedures, and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
This position exists to assist with implementing operations and maintenance strategies up to a three-month time span. In addition, this role is accountable to provide leadership through developing, implementing, and managing the daily to three-month business plan in alignment with the Supervisor's business plan. This role is accountable to ensure the portfolio adheres to TransAlta's operating model.
This role is based in North Carolina and is a full-time salaried, safety-sensitive position. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including mounting panels, wiring electrical components, inverters, and configuring system settings.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on solar installations to ensure optimal performance and address any issues that arise.
- Diagnose and repair faults in solar PV systems, including electrical and mechanical issues.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working on-site, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and others.
- Verify that installations and repairs meet industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Complete and submit detailed service reports, including work performed, parts used, and system performance data.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and best practices in solar PV systems, and participate in ongoing training as required.
- Supporting the daily to three-month operations and maintenance plan in alignment with the Supervisor's business plan through driving operational performance, achievement of business results, and continuous improvement
- Support the Supervisor as part of a high-performance team of employees and contractors to achieve the expected outcomes of the plants
- Contribute to a collaborative work environment within the team, peers, stakeholders, and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner
Requirements
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in solar PV installation, maintenance, or repair. Relevant experience in electrical or mechanical fields is also acceptable.
- Experience with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of solar inverters, and panel trackers.
- Experience with high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) systems, including safety procedures and maintenance practices.
- Understanding of the operational aspects of the plant - technical, compliance, and financial
- Plant risk and related mitigation strategies
- Understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and irregular hours, as required
- As this is a safety-sensitive position, successful completion of required pre-employment testing is a condition of employment

- Annual base salary starting at USD $53,000 – $65,000. The final agreed-upon base salary is based on the successful candidate(s) qualifications and experience.
