About The Role
TransAlta is currently recruiting for an operations supervisor for their North Carolina Solar portfolio.
The purpose of this position is to provide safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the solar assets in North Carolina; through application of operating/maintenance standards, procedures and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This position exists to develop and implement operations and maintenance strategies within a within a 3-12 month time span. In addition, this role is accountable to provide leadership through developing, implementing and managing a 3-12 month business plan in alignment with the US Wind and Solar Supervisor business plan. This role is accountable to ensure the portfolio adheres to TransAlta’s operating model. This role provides leadership to 6 direct reports. Additionally, this position will handle the troubleshooting of Balance of Plant (BOP) switching, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) functions, and communicate with landowners and local communities.
This role is based in North Carolina, and is a full-time salaried, safety-sensitive position. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of solar assets, including monitoring performance metrics and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Build, develop, and oversee a high-performance team of field technicians. Responsibilities include scheduling, training, performance evaluations, and ensuring the team meets the operational goals and performance expectations of the solar plants.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure the longevity of solar assets.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of solar assets to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Diagnose and resolve operational issues, including electrical, mechanical, and software-related problems.
- Prepare and present operational reports, performance metrics, and maintenance records to the management.
- Coordinate with external contractors and service providers for specialized maintenance or repair tasks.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure all work is performed in accordance with regulatory and company safety standards.
- Accountable for developing and implementing a 1-year business plan driving operational performance, achievement of business results and continuous improvement.
- Accountable for identifying and mitigating risk that could negatively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results, and identifying and realizing opportunities that could positively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results.
- Accountable to uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- 5+ years of experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of solar assets.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in leadership or supervisory role of technical, operations or maintenance personnel
- Working knowledge of high/medium voltage electrical systems including transformers, inverters, cables, CTs, PTs, breakers, switches, DC battery systems, etc.
- Appropriate certification or education in a related discipline, and/or possess tangible and proven experience and skills
- Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others
- Understanding of the operational aspects of the solar plant - technical, compliance, and financial
- Good understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management.
- Thorough understanding of how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve objectives.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and irregular hours, as required
- As this is a safety-sensitive position, successful completion of required pre-employment testing is a condition of employment

- Annual base salary starting at USD $90,000 – $115,000. The final agreed-upon base salary is based on the successful candidate(s) qualifications and experience.
