Our Center for Energy, Economic, and Environmental Systems Analysis team at Argonne supports the Department of Energy, Industrial Decarbonization Office on a multi-laboratory strategic analysis team. This multi-laboratory team evaluates the feasibility and life cycle impacts of sustainable manufacturing and energy conversion systems. For this project, we are looking for a candidate to model and analyze supply chains for low-carbon feedstocks, focusing on substituting fuels/energy sources for target manufacturing industries. The candidate will analyze the comparative performance, economics, and GHG impacts of optimally matching LCFFES to manufacturing facilities.
Under the guidance of the research supervisor(s), the student will perform the following tasks:
Familiarize themselves with our in-house modeling tool and review relevant supply chain analysis literature.
Collate and organize relevant data – including developing scripts to automate data extraction and conducting a meta-analysis on the data if necessary.
Setup simulation experiments and conduct analysis as required by the project
Develop databases and graphical illustrations of analysis results. If applicable, develop or contribute to communication materials such as presentations, reports, or manuscripts.
Academic Disciplines: Engineering, Sciences, Sustainability
Skills and Qualification
Competence with scientific programming languages (e.g., python, Julia) is required
A background in modeling, analysis ,or data-driven decision-making is a plus
