JOB SUMMARY: These are summer internship positions with anticipated entry on duty date is May 2025, dependent on candidate's academic calendar. These positions are located in Acadia National Park in the Project Management Division. Note the full performance level is either a GS-04 or GS-05 based on selection. MAJOR DUTIES: Summary (continued): Temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year but may be extended each year without further competition, if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available. Interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment. Duties: Anticipated entry on duty date is around May 2025, but is dependent on candidate's academic calendar. Employment is for the summer of 2025 only, consisting of a minimum of 12 weeks up to a maximum of 6 months. However, an extension of the appointment to a period not-to-exceed one year may be possible, without further competition, when the student intern remains eligible for the program. Pathways Internship positions provide for development and training. Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training. These positions are geared towards individuals interested in the engineering and construction of infrastructure projects of varying types. Under supervision and with guidance from park engineering and project management staff, the incumbent will learn about and assist with performing the following duties: Serve as a team member engaged in the planning, design, and construction of repair and rehabilitation projects for park facilities and infrastructure Perform detailed measurements of existing buildings and entering building construction data into databases Complete field verification of spatial data records Perform condition assessments and identifying deficiencies in existing facilities Research and draft standard design and construction details for the park Perform observation on active on construction sites Analyze infrastructure systems for deficiencies or improvements Assist with topographic survey and GIS mapping At the GS-04 incumbent will work in an assistant capacity under closer supervision.
