Job Description and Duties
The Corridor Planning Branch is fundamental to Caltrans long-range planning for interregional transportation, corridor system management, and multi-modal statewide travel analysis on the State Highway System (SHS) through the development and implementation of performance-based plans that identify current and future deficiencies on the SHS and surrounding corridors, strategies and projects to address deficiencies, and system improvements to meet Caltrans mission, vision, and goals and targets identified in the Strategic Management Plan.
Under the general direction of the Chief, Office of Corridor & System Planning, a Supervising Transportation Planner, the Senior Transportation Planner serves as the Corridor Planning Program Manager for the Corridor Branch function. The incumbent manages consultant and university contracts, with primary responsibility for statewide corridor management efforts within the Department. Working as a non-supervisory technical expert, the incumbent ensures corridor planning products are delivered on schedule, both within Headquarters and the Districts, and serves as the Department's lead respondent to corridor planning issues and questions. The Senior Transportation Planner works with the Office of Strategic Investment Planning and other Division of Transportation Planning Offices and Divisions to implement corridor plans; coordinates with the California Transportation Commission on Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan requirement updates; and ensures Caltrans Solutions for Congested Corridors Program nominations for Senate Bill 1 funding meet corridor plan requirements. The incumbent coordinates with other Division offices, tracks and reports on the corridor plan development in the districts, provides expert Corridor Planning guidance and advice to Districts and others, and coordinates with other Department functional areas, other public agencies and stakeholder groups.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Planner exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
