This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), West Coast Region (WCR), Regional Administrator's Office (RAO) with 1 vacancy located in Sacramento, CA. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Hydraulic Engineer, you will perform the following duties: Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses. Evaluate water diversion and discharge rates, pump capacities, water storage and management operations, and infrastructure designs, associated with water resource projects impacting upstream and downstream fish passage. Review and provide design suggestions for engineering projects for fish facility installations and upgrades in estuaries, large rivers, and small stream environments (e.g. Infrastructure designs, such as culverts and bridges, tide gates, irrigation diversion head works, pump intakes, etc.). Work collaboratively and cooperatively with a diverse group of stakeholders from various local, state, federal agencies, tribes and members of the public, to maintain consistency in hydraulic engineering principles, decisions, and policy recommendations. Provide input and contribute to the update, revision and development of the West Coast Region's (WCR) Fish Passage Guidelines. Assist fisheries biologists in the development, application, and monitoring of biological opinions, conducting literature searches and participating in scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops. Provide reports and briefings on projects to his or her supervisor.
