Position Summary
To support the deployment of Green Hydrogen Operations in Europe, we are looking for an Hydrogen Production Manager.
You will join the Hydrogen Operations Europe team, and you will be responsible for Plant Operations from design to normal operations. During engineering phases, you will interface with the engineering team and be part of the project management team as Operations Risk Owner. You will then be responsible for the plants start-up and normal operations in order to manage safe, reliable, on-specs and profitable production of green hydrogen.
With your experience and vision, both technical and operational, you will contribute to build robust work processes and systems to structure plant operations as an enabler for large-scale projects in Europe.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborating with the Europe Hydrogen Operations Director, your mission will be to:
Manage safe, reliable, on-spec and profitable daily operations
- Be the Plug Operations owner for the 6MW plant in Werlte (Germany) operated by a 3rd Party and:
- Ensure adherence to the Tolling Agreement with active participation and leadership of the Steering Committee.
- Communicate clear production plan and verify alignment between customer demand and 3rd Party organization.
- Steward plant performance for HSE, Quality and reliability. Trigger non-conformities, investigation, and robustness of corrective action plan.
- Coordinate non-routine requests to Hy2Gen such as methanation test, flushing, GPS installation etc.
- Monitor the progress of Tube Trailer Filling Station upgrade and Analyzer upgrade
- Become a technical referent within the Operations team to manage interface between High-Pressure tube trailers and filling site, rate limitations, flushing procedures. Stand-in of the fleet manager, you will become familiar with the Multiple Element Gas Container (MEGC) design.
Ensure a reliable transition from commissioning to operations by leading small-scale plants start-up to Commercial Operations Date (COD) with MIRA plant (1MW) as first case, and subsequent projects to come in Germany and France.
- Clarify O&M philosophy including Service Level Agreement in case of 3P contracting.
- Coordinate the development of O&M manual with SOPs
- Anticipate staffing plan and resources and coordinate training plan to have the right competencies for Start-Up. Leverage internal knowledge and expertise in the engineering organization during the first months of Operations.
- Be responsible for plant start-up by:
- signing-off the handover to Operations at the end of commissioning once all critical items of project punch-list are cleared.
- Developing a start-up plan to have a safe ramp-up of production
- Demonstrating full-plant capacity before formal COD.
Contribute to the flawless development of Green Hydrogen plant, from small to large scale projects, during engineering phases (Feasibility, Basic design, Feed).
- As Operation lead, integrate into the project engineering team and position yourself as the Risk Owner during the different design reviews (QRA, RAM, HAZOP, 3D model reviews) of the different engineering phases.
- Ensure that design choices taken during design phases are aligned with safety, quality, availability and maintainability objectives of the project. Participate to Steering Committee and ensure that design consequences on Operations are assessed and approved.
- Coordinate the development of Operational standards including the Operations & Maintenance philosophy, training plan, staffing plan, Standard Operating Procedures.
- Lead the reflection on production management with the selection and implementation of fit-for-purpose systems and work processes, involving Business Development team (electricity sourcing).
Become an operational and industrial referent within the Operation Europe team by:
- Supporting the development of Operations strategy on Daily Operations, Data and Digitalization (3D)
- Define the Operations framework for every plant (certification, daily/regular check, periodic maintenance, OEM support, Service Level Agreements).
- Participating to the structuring of ISO systems for Safety, Documentation, and Quality.
- Implementation of KPIs, monitoring the optimization of production plans, and follow-up of reliability and maintenance (preventive & curative)
Education and Experience
- You have an engineering degree or university degree / ideally electrolyze process or at least chemical engineering or related degree with 5+ years relevant technical experience.
- You have ‘Hands-on’ approach with onsite plant experience. Ideally, you have a first experience in Hydrogen, or at least in with under pressure gas and/or cryogenic gas (production, filling, storage).
- You have worked in Seveso environments and are fully aware of the security issues on such sites. In particular, you have encountered risks of explosion (AtEx), gas under pressure and/or Cryogenics (risk of cold burns, etc.).
- You are obsessed with security.

- You are fluent in French/English. German would be a plus. You are comfortable in a multicultural environment.
