Major Duties Statement The position is an Engineering Equipment Operator for the Blue Ridge Parkway. Two positions will be filled from this announcement, one in Roanoke, Co, Va (Vinton sub-district) and one in Floyd Co,Va (Rocky Knob sub-district.)The primary purpose of the position is to operate various engineering and construction equipment. Major duties include: Operates gas or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozers or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, wheel loaders, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Operates equipment to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth and /or refuse. Uses equipment to perform such functions as cutting, moving, digging, grading, and rolling earth, sand, stone, and other materials to maintain ditches, road shoulders and beds. Road maintenance including winter snow removal on mountain roads in winter storm conditions Area/Duty Station Information The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Moutains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks-Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. Roanoke Co, Virginia - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Vinton Maintenance Area, which is located in Roanoke Co, Virginia. Floyd Co, Virginia - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Rocky Knob Maintenance Area in Floyd, Co, Va.
