This position is located in the National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS), Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary (SBNMS) with one vacancy in Scituate, MA. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Research Marine Scientist, you will perform the following duties: Perform scientific research involving the collection, synthesis, evaluation, and presentation of scientific data on marine resources. Develop short and long-term research plans, oversee and control efforts to support research projects, develop and test research studies. Conduct field work on board research vessels to collect biological, chemical, and physical data. Collaborate with a research team engaged in diverse and, at times, risky operations. Utilize comprehensive knowledge of conservation biology, marine ecology, natural resources, and environmental sciences to synthesize complex scientific information into a variety of scientific, management and public outreach publications and materials (e.g., Condition Reports, educational materials, professional forums, educational events, input for websites). Work with complex data collection tools, databases and models to analyze and predict specific impacts of assigned areas of study. Input data and generate reports from established databases. Conduct natural resource and management studies. Formulate solutions to complex problems related to natural resource management and protection. Work in conjunction with federal, state, and local partners to address natural resource management challenges. Develop guidance and evaluate plans concerning management of marine resources. Utilize knowledge of ocean, estuarine and coastal resources and management concepts, principles, and practices. Provide advice, input, and support for regulatory and management analyses related to conservation science, such as impact analyses required under the National Environmental Policy Act, or Endangered Species Act, management plan reviews, 304(d) consultations, or Natural Resource Damage Assessments.
