Michael Baker International’s civil engineering professionals manage and staff active projects in over 40 countries on five continents. Services are provided for a broad range of projects and capabilities, including highways, airports, bridges, rail and transit systems, government and commercial facilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, oil and gas infrastructure, and commercial/urban development. DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker’s Civil and Environmental Practice seeks the expertise of an industrial environmental compliance specialist to join our growing team based out of our Virginia Beach, Virginia office (with remote/hybrid option to report to the Michael Baker office in North Carolina). Responsibilities include planning, managing, executing, and documenting environmental compliance projects. The focus of these projects includes industrial compliance with federal and state regulations for stormwater/SWPPP, SPCC, RCRA, air quality and emissions inventories, OSHA, IAQ, EPCRA, as well as other regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will have the necessary background to assist Michael Baker with establishing a new service offering in industrial compliance to private/commercial/industrial clients in addition to supporting our Federal (Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, etc.) and municipal clients. The successful candidate will demonstrate a successful history and passion for solving complex problems for our clients, interacting in a team environment and meeting established project requirements. The candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative engineering team with staff located in the Virginia Beach office as well as other Michael Baker offices across the country.
- Manage or oversee projects or tasks related to regulatory compliance for our industrial and commercial clients. Coordinate with sub-consultants as described by the project management plan.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements for various industries.
- Evaluate industrial regulatory compliance management systems and programs/plans to identify gaps and risks for regulatory noncompliance.
- Assist clients with corrective actions to ensure a return to compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop plans and procedures to assist industrial clients in meeting permit and regulatory requirements for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, and stormwater.
- Coordinate with the state and federal regulatory agencies from multiple states and local regulatory agencies on permit applications, reports, inspections, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and/or review compliance reports for environmental regulatory programs applicable to industrial and commercial facilities, including Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), EPRCA, and RCRA.
- Mentor junior project team members to ensure quality deliverables and expand junior staff skill set in industrial regulatory compliance.
- Manage multiple projects tasks simultaneously to meet client scope, budget, and schedule.
- Develop projects deliverables so that company quality standards and key performance indicators are maintained.
- Communicate with and educate clients on project deliverables to ensure client satisfaction.
- Identify, pursue and maintain client relationships to generate new and repeat business to grow the industrial regulatory compliance service offerings.
- Develop detailed scopes of work and associated cost estimates, staffing requirements, schedule, coordination with sub-consultants, and overall program standards.
- Assist in marketing for the civil and environmental engineering discipline, including SF330 proposal development for large federal contracts.
- Improve brand recognition by participation in professional organizations and regional, state and local conferences as budget allows.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENT
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science such as biology, chemistry or related (master’s degree is a plus) from an accredited university.
- 10 years of experience in environmental, including at least 5 years of consulting experience in environmental compliance with a focus on industrial and commercial clients. Experience with pollutant and contaminant measurements, methodology, and evaluation of data at industrial sites a plus.
- Knowledge of the following regulations and regulatory programs relating to industrial facilities: CWA (Stormwater), SPCC, CAA, EPCRA (Tier II, TRI) and RCRA Reporting.
- Direct work experience advising, planning, and executing on-site IAQ and stationary source emission measurements.
- Certification in environmental disciplines such as asbestos inspections or quality managment systems (ISO 9001) are a plus.
- Experience in project/program management which includes working within multidisciplinary teams, client coordination, and oversight of staff and/or subcontractors.
- Excellent technical writing and communications skills. Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat or similar.
- Physical Demands: Site visits may require the ability to traverse uneven terrain wearing PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and carrying light equipment necessary for data collection and reporting.
Travel is required for this position and the individual must be legally authorized to work in the US, with a valid US passport and eligible for security clearance. Travel requirements include domestic destination and will occasionally include international destinations
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position $100,942.40 - $174,865.60 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
