Purpose
The
CEEW’s sustainable water programme informs policy-making for the sustainable
development of water resources and their effective management through research
in areas of circular economy in used water management and water bodies
rejuvenation; capacity building for mainstreaming climate action in water;
sustainable development through policy coherence in food, land, and water
systems; and water accounting-based planning.
For its sustainable water programme, CEEW
seeks to hire a Research Analyst to support the programme and its various
projects, especially around policy coherence and essential themes at the nexus
of water-energy-food, like micro-irrigation and inclusive governance. The
Research Analyst will work on literature review, qualitative and quantitative
analysis, stakeholder consultations, field research, policy tracking, report
writing, project assistance, and outreach activities, supporting the
organisation's learning and operational goals.
Job duties
and accountabilities
Research
●Undertake qualitative and
quantitative research for various projects related to
water governance, policy coherence, water-energy-food
nexus, agricultural water management including micro-irrigation, and water footprint and water productivity analysis. Such workstreams include but are
not limited to (i) undertakinga literature review, (ii) analysing the evidence using quantitative and qualitative methods, (iii) preparing questionnaires for key informant interviews, (iv)
conducting stakeholder consultations, (v)
conducting the relevant analyses using appropriate statistical and qualitative
tools, (vi) presenting the analyses in a coherent narrative in different
formats.
●Travel to field sites whenever necessary, to conduct field research, including focus group
discussions, interviews, meetings, training, or gathering primary information.
●Track regularly government policy measures and
their implementation status related to sustainable
water management in India.
●Write high-quality research
reports, publish in leading peer-reviewed journals, and
generate other knowledge products for different audiences, such as blogs and
policy briefs, regularly.
●Establish and manage relationships
with project counterparts with other teams at CEEW as well as CEEW's partners.
Project/programme Assistance
●Assist senior researchers in the
teams in conceptualising new projects and developing high-impact research proposals and applications for research and general donor
funding.
●Assist in projects undertaken with
cross teams.
●Assist with project and programme
implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets, and other communication materials.
●Assist effective outreach of
research outputs through coordination with the outreach team and engagement with a broader network of stakeholders and
concerned policymakers.
●Participate in relevant
conferences, workshops, and training
programmes to comprehensively understandpertinent
developments to sustainable agriculture.
●As required, assist senior team members in
important meetings and sessions, such as prepare notes, and conduct follow-ups.
●Participate in weekly team
meetings and assist with preparing minutes and chairing the weekly meetings.
Selection Criteria
Qualification and work experience:
●Master's degree in Environmental
Studies/Natural Resource Management/Water Resources Management/Agricultural Sciences or any other related field.
●Strong analytical skills and prior
experience working with qualitative and basic quantitative data analysis.
●A minimum of 1 year of experience
is desirable.
Other Desirable Experience:
●Relevant publications in
peer-reviewed journals or book chapters.
●Experience working
on policy research projects with a core focus on water.
●Experience in
engagement with government officials at the
state level and farmers and researchers is preferred.
●Ability to use MS Office
application suite and to work with statistical tools such as STATA, R Studio,
or Python.
●Good presentation skills are essential for
effective, efficient, and adaptive verbal and written communication.
