Mission
Zelestra is looking for an Environmental Specialist to focus on the environmental management of an important construction project located in the La Joya area, Arequipa. This role aims to ensure compliance with environmental obligations in line with corporate guidelines, current regulations, IFC standards, and national principles.
Responsibilities
- Identify risks and mitigation plans, which may include desk-based activities and/or fieldwork, either independently or with the support of specialized consultants.
- In collaboration with the relevant areas, manage the hiring process of specialized consultants, preparation and/or review of DIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), EIA (Environmental Impact Study), and environmental permits at each stage, including but not limited to baseline studies, public participation, stakeholder engagement, PAS (Environmental and Social Management Plans), Addenda, among others, until obtaining the "Ready to Build" status.
- Work with relevant areas to hire specialized consultants to ensure compliance with IFC standards and Ecuador's principles, and address any identified gaps.
- Maintain relationships with contractors to supervise compliance with environmental obligations.
- Keep open communication with the project team regarding critical information, commitments, stakeholder relationships, and other relevant aspects of the project concerning environmental management, including providing direct field support as needed.
- Manage contracts with consultants and specialized lawyers providing services to the environmental department.
- Prepare management reports when required.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental obligations, respond to inspections, and process the necessary permits for the project's execution, while addressing internal reviews as needed.
- Represent the company before public environmental entities in Peru related to the project.
- Generate compliance and supervision reports for the EPC in construction, as well as provide early warnings and mitigation actions.
- Develop and manage the project budget.
- Prepare, review, and/or adjust documents to present to environmental authorities in compliance with obligations or adjustments to environmental instruments.
Job Requirements
- Professional degree in Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Biology, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in similar roles, particularly in Renewable Energy projects.
- Experience in utility-scale projects managed by authorities, field supervision of construction and operational projects, and engagement with environmental entities in Peru.
- Advanced/native Spanish proficiency.
- Advanced/native English proficiency.
