We are seeking an individual that is passionate and excited about the energy transition to join our team as a Manager, Corporate Development with a focus on development activities in the hydrogen, ammonia and carbon capture / sequestration business line.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Strategy and Development, the Manager will support the execution and development of ATCO EnPower’s low carbonfuels strategies in North America. Key functions include:
• Economic analysis and advising on commercial and financial strategies for growth projects
• Business strategy development
• Supervision and mentorship
The Manager will work closely with the senior members of the Commercial Development team and other internal and external stakeholders including professionals in business development, sales, economic analysis, engineering, operations, regulatory and government affairs, sustainability, accounting, finance, and treasury to perform their role.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Lead economic evaluation of projects and support activities related to strategic, commercial, and financial structuring for ATCO EnPower’s hydrogen growth initiatives and project development efforts.
- Collaborate with ATCO EnPower’s finance and treasury team to ensure effective execution and transition of business development opportunities to finance accounting.
- Conduct commercial due diligence on new growth opportunities.
- Partner with the Commercial Development team to support external negotiations and evaluate impacts of various commercial alternatives and pricing strategies on project outcomes.
- Optimize pricing strategies considering the unique policy and environmental attributes for each project and work to optimize value for ATCO EnPower and its customers through innovative commercial models.
- Work with commercial development teams and internal finance departments to support the strategy development and execution of funding strategies for major projects.
- Manage ongoing communications with ATCO’s Investor Relations and communications teams to ensure project strategies are effectively communicated to key project stakeholders.
- Provide expertise and knowledge in the development of strategic plans and analyses; evaluating new business opportunities, assessing the competitive landscape, and market fundamentals which underpin growth initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate strategic impacts of ongoing policy, ESG, customer and competitor activities within ATCO EnPower’s core hydrogen markets and use competitive intelligence to advance actionable project execution strategies.
- Develop long term strategies that reflect the competitive landscape for hydrogen, ammonia and CCUS across competing production technologies and different carbon intensities.
- Manage the development and compilation of hydrogen strategy and support the annual business plan materials for the company’s Board of Directors.
- Direct supervision and mentorship of a small team of analysts.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and regular check-ins supporting the team with achieving professional development goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Commerce, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
- Completion or progress towards CFA, MBA, MA, CPA, or CBV.
- 7-10 years of experience in accounting, corporate finance, valuation, business development, or a related role.
- Strong experience in economic modeling and commercial negotiations for project development, partnerships, and external financing.
- In-depth knowledge of energy sectors, including ESG and climate policy trends.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze and interpret the economic impact of business opportunities and provide transaction structuring recommendations.
- Preferred experience in supervising or mentoring analysts.
- Understanding of energy transition drivers, including policy, climate, and ESG factors.
- Ability to collaborate with Senior Business Development professionals.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Independent worker with attention to detail and a results-focused approach.
- Proficiency in Excel and MS Office applications.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects under tight deadlines, with flexibility to work long hours and weekends as needed.
