Seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) or Staff Services Analyst (Claims Analyst). Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager I (Claims Manager) supervising the District 5 Claims Office, the incumbent will work independently as a Claims Officer or Claims Analyst. The Claims Officer/Claims Analyst is responsible for investigating and evaluating potential and filed public liability claims arising in the District and providing investigation and discovery support to Caltrans Legal Division Bay Area Legal Office (BALO) attorneys. In addition to these responsibilities, the Claims Officer/Claims Analyst will provide guidance and assistance to other staff as instructed by the Claims Manager.
Works with attorneys with trial preparation, quick response situations, scheduling of employees for depositions and trial appearance. Represents Caltrans in Small Claims hearings; reviews claim and prepares defense, attends hearings, and presents the defensive arguments to the hearing officer or judge. Arranges for appropriate District person e.g., Resident Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, to appear as witness if necessary. Meets with appropriate District Personnel to answer questions or review their files/records. Processes claims filed in the District which are under $12,500.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Associate Governmental Program Analyst / Staff Services Analyst exam.
