JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in the Inventory and Monitoring Division of the Mojave Desert Network of the Natural Resources Stewardship and Science Directorate. MAJOR DUTIES: The incumbent will conduct and participate in long-term monitoring of vegetation resources within the network parks. The incumbent will be the field crew lead for all vegetation monitoring protocols (Integrated Uplands, Spring Vegetation, Fov-Needle Pine, and Aspen). Responsibilities will include planning and leading vegetation monitoring data collection efforts, as well as collecting vegetation monitoring data, ensuring the consistent collection of data by all crew members. Ensuring the safety of crew members, summarizing data for a variety of vegetation monitoring metrics, and potentially reporting or presenting the findings to a wide variety of audiences ranging from scientific peers to the general public. Additional responsibilities include organizing the logistics, scheduling, and planning for field implementation of the vegetation resource monitoring program. The incumbent will work with other field technicians and ensure that field work follows approved safety plans and data quality assurance and quality control procedures.
