Logan Simpson has an immediate opening for a regular full-time Senior Environmental Planner to join our team primarily focusing on travel management and NEPA, including planning, evaluating, and managing travel routes, trail systems, and access points across federal and state-managed lands. This position would work a hybrid in-office schedule preferably from our downtown Fort Collins, Colorado. Candidates living in the Denver area or throughout Colorado may also be considered.
We are seeking a candidate who will contribute to our diverse, collaborative, and innovative team; maximize the opportunity to learn new techniques and skills; and bring new tools and ideas to the practice.
Responsibilities Include:
- Lead travel management, trail, and primitive road planning NEPA projects on public lands and communities throughout the western states.
- Mentor and provide technical expertise on travel management projects and NEPA analysis.
- Conduct research and write existing condition reports and impact assessments.
- Proactively identify and engage in new business opportunities related to travel management, trail planning, and environmental planning projects on public lands.
- Develop work plans, maintain schedules, conduct quality control reviews, and perform other duties as required.
- Independently organize, facilitate and conduct agency meetings and public involvement activities.
- Occasional out-of-state travel to visit project sites and attend public outreach events.
Position Requires:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Planning, Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, GIS, or a related field
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience with NEPA document preparation, especially in resource management, travel management, or trail planning.
- Professional Background: Proven experience in consulting/private industry, environmental non-profits, or government agencies.
- Writing Skills: Strong writing ability, particularly in topics related to natural resources and NEPA documentation.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a talent for working collaboratively in team settings.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional focus on detail and quality control.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to synthesize complex ideas and present them clearly through both text and graphics.
- Adaptability: Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities while meeting project deadlines.
- Team Collaboration: Enthusiasm for contributing to a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Initiative & Innovation: Self-starter with a dedication to accuracy, curiosity to explore new planning practices, and eagerness to test and implement emerging ideas and technologies.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Compensation:
This is a full-time position paid on a salaried basis between $65,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience and education.
