Job Purpose
To provide senior level environmental regulatory technical expertise and guidance to the Business, operating facilities and other external/internal stakeholders. Design, develop, implement and manage complex strategic programs and initiatives on a business-wide basis to ensure compliance with current and emerging regulations, and to improve environmental performance. Represent LP concerning regulatory compliance and emerging issue policy.
In this position you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop, implement and manage the most complex environmental programs across the business.
- Advise facilities and EHS Department on strategic environmental issues to ensure and improve compliance programs.
- Develop detailed implementation plans for significant emerging or revised environmental laws.
- Actively monitor and participate in applicable rulemaking; participate in industry groups to positively influence emerging issues.
- Evaluate and provide direction and detailed technical guidance on developing construction and related operating permit applications; negotiate permit terms and conditions with government agencies.
- Provide expert technical support and guidance for environmental incidents and/or potential notices of violation.
- Manage large complex Environmental projects that typically have significant financial impact to the organization.
- Advise business on pollution control technologies and effective compliance techniques.
- Participate in strategic environmental planning and the development of continuous improvement programs.
- Supervise preparation of Compliance Alerts and assist with development of new environmental policies.
Serve as mentor and coach to plant environmental managers and corporate EHS project managers.
- Ensure environmental personnel are informed of and follow company policies.
- Maintain system to ensure managers have knowledge of all applicable environmental regulations.
- Provide expert level support to LP business and plants in one or more environmental media (Air, Water, Waste, Pollution Control Equipment)
- Monitor and direct the development of environmental reports and ensure reporting meets mandated deadlines.
- Provide leadership and direction in implementing the Capital Project Management Systems (CPMS).
- Provide environmental budget information and assist, as needed, the LP Business with all planning activities.
- Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as necessary.

Experience:
- 10 or more years’ environmental science experience.
- 7 or more years detailed permit and regulatory/policy development experience at the local, state/provincial and/or federal levels.
- Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s degree in associated disciplines preferred.
Work Environment
- Ability to work for short periods in physically stressful situations required.
- Moderate travel required (~50%).
