Job Description
Pay Rate: $70000 to $90000 per year.

Position Purpose:
The Health, Security and Safety Specialist under limited supervision is responsible for supporting the HS Manager in planning, collaborating, implementing, and maintaining a variety of site and corporate health, security, and safety programs to assure the highest degree of workplace safety for employees, as well as compliance with all related regulatory requirements.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the HS manager:
- Ensure Business Unit compliance
- Assist in the development and implementation of business unit HSS related policies, procedures and programs to assure compliance with all federal, state, local and company-specific regulations & requirements.
- Ensure that all HSS regulatory documentation is accurately compiled, contains detailed record keeping information, and is submitted on time to the requesting regulatory agency or corporate office.
- Participate in RCA of BU injuries, environmental, MVA, Security incidents.
- Supports development and implements plans and drives to completion any audit findings from HSS assessments.
- Provide HSS support and information related to training and health programs.
- Ensure that effective HSS related training for employees, contractors and visitors is being conducted and documented.
- Deliver HSS training for the site.
- Ensuring that regular safety meetings are being conducted as required.
- Ensuring that new employee & visitor onboarding is being conducted as required.
- Ensure contractor HSS program(s) are consistent with Veolia requirements.
- Works with site management and employees:
- Supports management of the Site’s Incident Management and Workers Compensation Program, including working with supporting clinics and third-party case management companies as required.
- Assist in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment activities.
- Participate in Job Safety Analysis/Risk Assessments as required.
- Perform HSS audits.
- Monitor and report on site HSS goals and objectives.
- Driving continuous improvement in HSS programs and managing the site HSS systems.
- Supports maintenance of Site HSS Performance Metrics.
- Manage specific HSS issues and incidents.
- Coordinate with HR on Workers Compensation and Return-to-Work matters.
- Work with business team members to assess HSS impacts of proposed changes.
- Liaise with other Veolia HSS professionals & business units on matters concerning workplace safety, health and environmental issues.
- May be required to assist and work at the other sites for short- or long-term assignments.
- Champion selected programs.
- Supports updates of Emergency Preparedness Procedures and ensures Emergency Response Drills are conducted.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Office and field environment.
- This is an onsite job, remote work is not available for this position.
- Travel to individual business units may require overnight stay.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- BS or BA degree from an accredited university in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering or Environmental Science. Or 2+ years EHS experience in a construction or industrial environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to clearly present training and presentations to all levels of employees and contractors.
- Autonomy: Ability to work toward goals without close supervision.
- Well organized; Documentation & Reporting.
- Versatility: Possess excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
- Team player: Direct, coach, train, orient and work effectively with others through influence.
- Able to reach out to peers for support when unable to address HSS questions/issues.
- Collaborate closely with EHS&S counterparts in the business circuit, and corporate personnel through a variety of networks.
- Time management, ability to deal with multiple deadlines and workload prioritization.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Certification in related Health and Safety fields highly preferred:
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work in front of computer screens.
