Position Overview
The Battery Scientist III is a key position within Research & Development who leads projects that stretch the bounds of what was previously thought possible in batteries. They will be responsible for developing areas of research that coincide with our technical roadmap and coordinating external and internal resources to study those areas. This includes activities related to all cell components – anode, cathode, electrolyte, design, and ancillaries. The ideal candidate would be extremely flexible, curious, resilient, and eager to learn.
Responsibilities:
- Work with R&D Team to source, synthesize, formulate and/or characterize new materials and components in battery applications
- Partner with Manufacturing Team to scale new discoveries to application-interesting sizes and volumes
- Contribute technical writing to reports, patents and grant
- Stay abreast of the state of the art in the battery industry
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- PhD in Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics.
- An additional 5+ years of post-graduate work in the battery industry, with preference for startups.
- Direct experience working on battery cells and battery cell materials
- Creative thinker and strong a faculty for learning
- Ability to advance multiple projects in a fast-paced and multidisciplinary environment
- Verifiable track record of discovery and development in next-generation Lithium-ion batteries
- Deep knowledge of fundamental electrochemistry and understanding of critical battery tradeoffs
- Strong and verifiable written/verbal communication skills

The pay range:
$ 124,313 (entry-level qualifications) to $155,084 (highly experienced) Annually
This is the pay range the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position.
